VINTAGE VERIFIED BY ISH GUITARS

Tech Notes:  Very interesting Telecaster!  This is the elusive “Smugglers” (heavy ash body with large relief cut under the pickguard. Guitar plays great with medium/low action and flat relief.  Strung with D'Addario XL strings. This guitar was at some point refinished and the neck pickup was replaced with a Charlie Christian style pickup which was actually glued into the pickguard and not moveable.  The person who installed the pickup was pretty sloppy with the soldering but all the joints are solid and work perfectly.. The body route was also further enlarged to allow room for the pickup.  The headstock was refinished and the decal was redone and looks like it was not properly applied as it is crooked. There was a string tree added with what looks like epoxy over the screw at the top of the tree. There is plenty of fretwear up and down the board with plenty of board wear. There is a little bit of lift on the last few frets on the edges.  However, with all the fretwear and areas of lift  it still plays great without any significant buzz. The pot that I can read dates to the 34th week of 1966, the neck says 1967, the neck plate dates to 1967, it appears to certainly be a guitar from 1967.  The middle screw for intonation was replaced because it was deformed.  The output jack was replaced with a switch craft because it was hard to insert and remove the cable, the shape of the new jack helped this. There are a handful of non original screws around the pickguard and most notably the input jack plate.

Cosmetic Condition: A collection of dings, scratches and wear present all over the body/edges/neck/headstock/pickguard.
